The first section of the new sensory wall, a tactile and visual experience designed to support sensory regulation and learning, is finally complete at the Sedgwick Middle School library media center. According to lead applicant and Library Media Specialist Shannon McNeice, the students love the new library centerpiece and have been exploring its features with enthusiasm. "This is my favorite thing in school," one student exclaimed, encapsulating the positive feedback they’ve received. Mrs. McNeice reports, “This project has truly become a centerpiece of our school, fostering joy and curiosity among the student body.”
Thanks to a generous grant from the Foundation, the Deane Family Grant: From Text to Texture: Enhancing Our Library Experience with a Sensory Wall, additional sensory panels and elements will soon be installed throughout the library. The additions will create a network of calming spots that will provide serene and engaging spaces for all students to explore, learn, and relax. |
