Hearts & Smarts Trivia Challenge

Our 2nd Annual Hearts and Smarts Trivia was a success! The snow did not deter 23 teams of teachers, students, and parents, who showed up ready to compete. The Charter Oaks even brought their own charcuterie board! Matthew Dicks led fast-paced rounds of trivia, punctuated by scavenger hunts, Simon Says, and sweet treats from Conard High School’s culinary department and Nothing Bundt Cakes. After multiple rounds, the Fighting Sea Cucumbers emerged victorious. Mark your calendars for February 6, 2027, for our third annual Hearts and Smarts Trivia competition!

Singer Family Grant: Parades, Punches, and Professors: Expanding Chinese Learning Beyond the Classroom

Students studying/learning Chinese at Hall High School engaged in a culturally immersive project to deepen their understanding of Chinese language and heritage at Hall High School. The “Punches” component brought Grand Master Ginger Jiang from Julong Wushu to introduce students to traditional Chinese martial arts, including tai chi, kung fu, and the lion and dragon dances. “Parades” enhanced our school’s annual Lunar New Year celebration by involving students in preparing and distributing festive souvenirs like red envelopes and decorative items. Finally, the “Professors” segment offered AP Chinese students a field trip to Yale University, featuring a guided tour of Chinese art at the Yale Art Gallery, a visit to a college-level Chinese class, and lunch at authentic local Chinese restaurants. Together, these experiences promote cultural appreciation, language engagement, and community connection beyond the classroom walls.
