Students at Charter Oak International Academy took a virtual journey through the corridors of international diplomacy where they learned about the history and structure of the United Nations (UN) and how the UN deals with issues such as promotion of human rights, disarmament, peacekeeping and sustainable development. Following the virtual trip, students worked with grade level peers to reflect on and extend their learning and participated in "United Nations Day"!

"The fifth grade students at Whiting Lane Elementary School joined their classmates for an in-school field trip. They worked with the visiting scientist to explore science concepts in a hands-on manner. The lesson specifically focused on matter. They made models of molecules to understand the structure of matter as well as other activities that illustrated physical and chemical changes. These activities directly supported our science curriculum, so the students were provided additional experiences that helped reinforce their understanding of the concepts. They appeared to enjoy the experience as everyone was engaged throughout the activity." Teacher, Karen Bridges

The Foundation is pleased to announce that we have launched a campaign to raise money for the Tom Moore Superintendent Grant in honor of Tom’s 26 years of service and dedication to the West Hartford Public School system. Tom began his career in West Hartford as a student teacher at Hall High School and was then hired as a social studies teacher at Conard High School. Prior to his promotion to superintendent in July 2014, Tom served as a department supervisor, principal at Conard High School and then assistant superintendent for administration. Join us in honoring Tom's career and legacy by donating today!
