We’re thrilled to announce that due to you, our generous donors, The Foundation for West Hartford Public Schools has committed to award $100,000 for the 2025-2026 school year, an increase of $20,000 over last year’s campaign.

If you know a West Hartford Public School teacher, please remind them that our second cycle of grant applications closes on October 15th, and we would love them to submit innovative ideas to enhance and enliven the classroom experience for West Hartford Public School students.  For more information and a full list of grant recipients, please visit the Foundation website at www.fwhps.org.

Additionally, we are excited to continue two community events introduced last year, Family Movie Night (Friday, November 14th at Bristow Middle School) and Hearts and Smarts Trivia (Saturday, February 7th at Town Hall). The Foundation’s second free Family Movie Night will be presenting Encanto Sing-Along. This limited seating family movie event is free and open to the community. Doors will open at 5:30pm for the 6:00pm screening. Pizza and drinks will be available. Please click here to save your seats now!

Anne & Jim Carroll Grant: “Code a Hole in One!”

Can you code a golf ball robot to make a “Hole in One”? Fourth grade students at Smith Elementary School used Sphero Mini golf ball robots to learn about coding and apply angles from their Geometry unit. Students used Blockly programming to code their spherical robot to roll through a mini-golf course. Check out this grant in action here!

John Kozak Memorial Grant: Roaring Brook Nature Center Field Trip

Students at Whiting Lane got to see first-hand how animal engineers build structures to raise their young, survive winter, store food, and escape predators. More than that, students witnessed how these animals have altered their environment and what we as humans have learned from them. Thanks to the John Kozak Memorial Grant, these students now see the animals—and the world around them—with curiosity and a newfound respect.
